Janko de Beer Solo Exhibition

Janko de Beer
Solo Exhibitio, 2021

There is an element of apprehension that can be observed when a viewer is asked to explain what they see in an artwork.

The frantic search for the
direction to form a sound concept is very visible and this can be seen especially when audiences look at abstract art as it challenges the concept
of form.

There is no free explanation given within the titles of the artworks but rather the exhbition challanges the viewr to confront what is in front of them so they may form a narrative of thier own.

The title of the artwork is where most audiences decide on where their
opinions on the artwork should sit. However, this has a restriction as the
audiences first-hand impression is lost in the search for a guided title as they
attempt to adjust to a new concept. At times you find that there are no
adjustments because the connection to the art piece is gone or has been
replaced with embarrassment from overestimating or underestimating the
artist intentions and narrative.

The artworks within this exhibition are titled in such a way that they don’t
give a direct description to the audience but rather challenge the viewer to
look at the works and place their personal experiences and narratives into
the artworks.

The artworks are a mixture of colour, pattern, texture and proportions that
illustrates the mixture of mediums used on the and sculptures. The artworks
show the artist journey in process of creating and capturing a vision and
aesthetic that invites audiences to connect and develop their own stories
and feelings.

A distortion of the natural form is visible within every sculpture, challenging the viewer to decipher the artistic intention created.

looking at the statues the audience can pick out distinct human features fused with natural elements that are non-human. The intricate play between natural form and abstract are balanced throughout the exhibition.
