Natasha Jacobs

Contemporary artist/ illustrator

Natasha Sandra Ruth Jacobs was born and raised in a small town called Eshowe, in South Africa.

Growing up Natasha had no idea what it meant to be an artist as she had never met one before. She had friends whose parents knew how to paint. The closest thing to art she was surrounded by was the carpentry workshop owned by her grandparents. Natasha’s university Masters Art exhibition was inspired by my experiences in the workshop.

Natasha was a shy child, and self-expression was not something that came naturally to her. She was able to express herself freely in her art which is one of the reasons that she enjoys drawing and painting so much.

After high school, Natasha made it into an art university where she completed a Masters in Fine Art.

Natasha pursued her academic studies and worked as an assistant to several artists from South Africa and Sweden.  She took part in many exhibitions, workshops, live art events and participated in academic discussions in South Africa. Since moving to Saudi Arabia, she has been lucky enough to have taken part in exhibitions.

Natasha originally had moved to Saudi Arabia to teach art at a high school. It was by chance that Natasha met people from Dhad who introduced her to the world of graffiti. After exploring the Saudi graffiti art scene, she learned that graffiti was not her strong point.

After her grandmother’s death, Natasha found herself working with black ink. The black and white artworks she began making had started off as a way of expressing a moment she shared with her grandmother before she passed away.

Each piece is ambiguous with details that Natasha hopes will draw in the viewer and guide the eye on a journey through Light, Shadow and Form.
